Scandola isn’t a place you simply visit. You approach it slowly, from the sea. It’s the only way to reach it, and that’s precisely what makes it so unique.

Setting out from the port of Calvi, our boat first follows a familiar coastline that gradually changes character. Red rock cliffs rise up, sea caves open up at water level, and volcanic islets emerge from the Mediterranean in shapes that time has slowly sculpted. The contrast is striking—the intense red of the rock, the dense green of the maquis, and the deep blue of the water. Scandola announces its presence even before we arrive.

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Scandola Nature Reserve is one of the few places in the Mediterranean where nature has truly reclaimed its dominance. Ospreys, crested cormorants, groupers, dolphins—the wildlife is present, discreet, and at times spectacular. Our guides will tell you about what isn’t always visible to the naked eye.

Swimming is not permitted within the reserve—this is the price we pay for its preservation. A 30- to 40-minute swimming break is scheduled outside the protected area, in crystal-clear turquoise waters that will make you want to stay there.

What to bring: swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, hat, masks and snorkels, and a jacket depending on the season.
